The Digital Film-Related Documentation Taskforce has authored a new document, 'Cataloguing Born-Digital Film-Related Materials' 2025

The document serves as a framework which aims to support archivists in cataloguing born-digital film-related materials, such as the documents of individuals and organisations, animation, designs, posters, publicity material, scripts and stills, all created in digital form. Within this document, metadata fields are outlined to support good digital metadata capture. It does not adhere to any formal cataloguing standard and should be regarded as a framework rather than a definitive authority.

The document was co-authored by Grace Johnston, Davy Hanegreefs, Renate Kunz and Jessica Hébert, and draws upon insights contributed by the entire Taskforce throughout meetings and discussions.

You can access this document via the FIAF - Fédération internationale des archives du film/International Federation of Film Archives Cataloguing and Documentation Commission’s resources webpage and The Association of European Cinematheques webpage. Many thanks to our CDC and ACE colleagues for hosting the document.
