  • 1.  2022 Call for Nominations - Join the Oral History Section Steering Committee!

    Posted Jun 23, 2022 04:44 PM
    Hello Colleagues!

Are you seeking an opportunity to expand your network and get further involved in the oral history community? If so, consider running for an open position on the Oral History Section Steering Committee. Self nominations are encouraged! We have not yet filled our election slate!

Benefits of providing your time and expertise to the Steering Committee include:

    • Networking with engaged colleagues
    • Cultivating leadership skills in a real-world setting
    • Driving trends in the field
    • Gaining service credit for career advancement
    • Satisfying continuing education and/or certification requirements

Our current chair Lindsay Hiltunen says: "Participation in SAA's Oral History Section is a wonderful experience for any archivist who works in, with, or around oral history. The networking opportunities and the ability to engage with and collaborate with other oral historians and archivists has expanded my own knowledge of oral history and has informed policy and practice at my institution. All members of the steering committee engage in leadership and help support the oral history community. I've learned a lot working with the kind and dedicated folks on the steering committee and the section overall."

Please consider nominating yourself or a colleague for one of our open positions:

Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect (3 year commitment, as Vice-Chair, Chair, and Past Chair)

The vice-chair/chair-elect serves as acting chair in the absence of the chair, organizes the annual meeting of the section (and leads it in their first year), sets the agenda of the Steering Committee, and participates as a member of the Steering Committee in all its activities. This is an officer level position. Expect approximately 2-4 hours of committee work a month.

Steering Committee Member (2 year commitment, 2 open positions)

Steering Committee Member assists the committee in setting and completing the section's annual work. Recently the OHS focused on improving communication outlets, collaborating with affiliated SAA sections and aligned organizations, and establishing an Oral History program within SAA. Expect approximately 1-2 hours of committee work a month.

If interested, please submit a brief biography and candidate statement (1-2 paragraphs each) describing your interest in serving on the Steering Committee by Wednesday, June 29, 2022. You can submit your interest, along with any questions, to: Lindsay Hiltunen, Chair and Nominating Committee Co-Chair - lehalkol@mtu.edu, Nick Pavlik, Steering Committee Member and Nominating Committee Co-Chair - npavlik@bgsu.edu. Please see the OHS Standing Rules for more information. Thank you for considering joining our committee!

    Best regards,
    Lindsay Hiltunen
