  • 1.  STHC 2022-2023 Elections

    Posted May 23, 2022 04:41 PM

The Science, Technology, and Health Care (STHC) section of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) is seeking several nominations to fill leadership roles, with terms beginning in August 2021. The STHC section provides a forum for professionals with interests or holdings in science, technology, and health care.

    • Jr. Co-Chair
    • 3 Steering Committee Members-At-Large
    • Early Career Member

This is a great opportunity to shape the future of STHC while gaining leadership experience. The normalization of telework this past year has actually aided SAA's mission in "promoting the value and diversity of archives and archivists" through the diminishing of travel barriers to participation. Although the annual meeting in 2022 will resume in-person, STHC seeks to provide remote opportunities in participation in addition to attracting members and leadership from those previously underrepresented in STHC and SAA. Please refer to the SAA Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Core Values and Code of Conduct for more information.

Please contact Co-chairs Gabrielle Barr barrgabrielle8@gmail.com and Brandon Pieckzo bpieczko@iu.edu" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bpieczko@iu.edu for more information and/or to submit your nominations. The deadline for nominations is May 27, 2022.

    JUNIOR CO-CHAIR:

This individual will serve one year as junior co-chair of the section and the following year as the senior co-chair of the section. The junior co-chair serves as acting Chair in the absence of the senior co-chair and participates as a member of the Steering Committee in all its activities. Traditionally, the STHC junior co-chair organizes the programming for the annual meeting of the section, records minutes, and helps to draft the annual report. The senior co-chair directs and reports the activities of the section, organizes and conducts the annual meeting of the section, chairs the steering committee, acts as liaison for the section to other bodies, appoints section committees as needed, and is responsible for administrative matters, including, but not limited to, annual reports to the SAA.

    STEERING COMMITTEE MEMBERS-AT-LARGE:

The Steering Committee directs and coordinates activities of the section and makes appointments for additional steering committee members, including ex-officio appointments and when vacancies occur. Committee members help establish projects to work on through the year, and plan the annual section meeting. In appointing Members-at-Large, every effort shall be made to reflect geographic and subject area diversity reflected in the mission statement. Members-at-Large shall be appointed to a 3-year term. Members-At-Large may be reappointed. Members-At-Large shall maintain their good standing through a combination of at minimum biennial Annual Steering Committee Meeting attendance, contributing to the section's development and vitality, listserv participation, responsiveness to requests from the Chairs, and meeting deadlines.

    EARLY CAREER MEMBER:

Students and new professionals (with three or fewer years of experience in the profession) are eligible to apply to this new mentoring and leadership position within the Steering Committee, participating in all meetings as well as assisting with special projects, research, or administrative tasks, when applicable. This position is appointed by the Steering Committee for a 1-year term.
