DESCRIPTION
Bryan Whitledge from SAA’s Committee on Public Policy will discuss with our section the contributions that SAA can make on behalf of state and local archives in a pandemic setting, and how state and local archives can draw upon SAA’s expertise to lead your own advocacy campaign.
Katy will be sharing highlights from LYRASIS’ 2020 report, “Collecting Archival Materials During the COVID-19 Pandemic” with an emphasis on government records institutions who participated in the survey and resources for moving forward.
Following the speakers and the joint business meeting, members of the Government Records Section steering committee will facilitate a conversation amongst attendees about issues facing government records archivists and archives during the pandemic, and how our members adapted (or not!) to the sudden change in circumstances.
SPEAKERS
Bryan Whitledge is Archivist for University Digital Records at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He also serves as Vice Chair on the Society of American Archivist’s Committee on Public Policy and is SAA's representative to the National Coalition for History. He is involved in advocacy at the intersection of public policy and archives operations, particularly in the context of state and local, and non-governmental archives.
Katy Klettlinger, LYRASIS Consultant for Space Planning, Strategic Planning & Preservation, has over fifteen years' experience in archival, government, and public library settings. Previously, Klettlinger was a Library Consultant for the State Library of Ohio where she assisted public libraries with digitization, space planning, and strategic planning. Before coming to the State Library, Klettlinger worked for six years as the Records Manager and Archivist for Licking County Government in Ohio where she built the county's program from the ground up and created its first county-wide digitization program. Her background in archival and digitization management for government settings in addition to public library needs provides unique perspectives for librarians to consider when offering quality services to their patrons. Katy takes pride in supporting colleagues and helping them succeed.
