“The Role of Processing Priorities in Collections Management – 3 years later” (Geiser and Lippert)
In 2018, staff from UCR presented at the SAA annual meeting on how our processing priorities were determined and communicated using a rubric to score collections on a variety of factors. 3 years later, we’re revisiting the topic to discuss how this system evolved over time, what factors led to that change, and what we’re doing now to determine our processing priorities.

“Old Collections and New Perspectives: Modernization Efforts in the Medical Center Archives at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine” (Han)
Tali Han will present on her approach and plans to modernize systems, workflows, and procedures in various areas of collection management and reevaluate processing priorities. Taking advantage of her fresh perspectives as a new hire, she will speak about her approach to physical, intellectual, and preservation management, while navigating competing priorities with both external and internal factors that impact short and long-term processing and collecting goals.

“Adapting Processing in a Hybrid Work Situation” (Huggard)
Marcella Huggard, who oversees manuscripts processing for the University of Kansas Libraries, will discuss how she has revised processing priorities based on a hybrid work situation where staff have been working part-time from home and part-time in the office during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“Surveys, Students, and Scaffolding: Putting a Prioritized Processing Program Into Use” (Baugnon and Yatsonsky)
This presentation will consider how archives can use collection assessment data and creative student employment training techniques to strategically prioritize collection processing. Drawing from their own experience, UNC-Wilmington Special Collections staff will discuss how they are improving processing workflows, transforming the student assistant position, and demonstrating value beyond the walls of the repository.

“Prioritizing Processing with Value Scores” (Jackson)
Laura Uglean Jackson, Archives and Special Collections Librarian at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), will share a method to prioritize collections for processing. She and her colleagues at UNC tested and implemented the value score rubric originally created at the University of California, and then assigned scores for all university archives collections. She will discuss the process, benefits, and some challenges with the existing rubric.
