Please join the SAA Students and New Archives Professionals Section for the next #snaprt Twitter chat on Wednesday, November 13 at 8pm/ET. Join us as we discuss salary negotiations. We look forward to hearing from participants about their experiences in negotiating salaries, effective negotiating strategies, and how to empower new archives professionals to advocate for equitable salaries.
We welcome everyone to join or keep up with our chat using the #snaprt hashtags on Twitter. The SNAP Section Twitter account (@SNAP_Section) will pose the following questions:
- Q1. What strategies should a candidate use to be successful in negotiations? How can a new archives professional leverage their knowledge, skills, and experience to negotiate an equitable salary? #snaprt
- Q2. Salary seems obvious, but what are some other types of compensation that are negotiable? #snaprt
- Q3. What are some reasons why negotiations aren't successful? Are there systemic or institutional issues at play? Should you take "No" for an answer? #snaprt
- Q4. Does negotiating stop once you've secured a job? How frequently should you renegotiate your salary/benefits? #snaprt
- Q5. How can managers and supervisors advocate for higher starting salaries? #snaprt
If you would like to have a discussion topic included in this chat, please send it to @SNAP_Section on Twitter, submit it through the anonymous form on the SNAP chat webpage or e-mail the SNAP Senior Social Media Coordinator at coletw@jmu.edu.
