- On Teaching History Majors
History professor Claire Strom and digital archivist Rachel Walton of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, used archival projects to teach undergraduate history majors how to incorporate primary sources in their research assignments. For the project, supported by an Associated Colleges of the South grant called "Pathways to Diversity," a multi-institution effort dedicated to uncovering and illuminating the history of integration at southern liberal arts colleges, students examined the local experiences and personal stories of African American students, staff, and faculty at Rollins College in the twentieth century. Read "Engaging History Majors in Intensive Archival Research: Assessing Scaffolded Curricula for Teaching Undergraduates Primary Source Literacy Skills," part of the Teaching With Primary Sources Case Studies Series sponsored by SAA's Reference, Access and Outreach Section.
- On Reclassifying University Archives
For SAA's Campus Case Studies Series, Tammi Kim describes a multi-year project to implement a new collection classification schema that will improve discovery and access for UNLV's University Archives. This study outlines steps taken during the survey and describes how staff analyzed existing collection records and metadata in order to create more cohesive intellectual control of materials.
