Collaborating for Impact: Creating a Racial Justice Blog Series to Connect the Past with the Present

This webinar will discuss a four-part racial justice blog series composed by a librarian, archivist, and staff writer at Emory Libraries. The panelists will describe the origins of the project and its organization, goals, and impact. Attendees will leave with a practical example of how to work across divisions and use their communication channels to demonstrate the relevancy of their collections to the current social climate.
Erica Bruchko is the librarian for African American Studies and U.S. history at the Emory Libraries, where she builds library collections, participates in special projects, and provides instruction and consultation services. She is an active participant of the RUSA History Section of ALA and serves on Emory University Libraries' DEI Committee as a core member of the Professional Development and Outreach subcommittees. She holds a PhD and MA in history from Emory and a BA in history and anthropology from the University of South Carolina.
Jina DuVernay is the Collection Development Archivist for African American collections at the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University, where she acquires archival material for the African American collecting area. Jina, a 2018 ALA Emerging Leader and 2018-2020 BCALA board member, serves on numerous committees including the ALA Committee on Diversity and is a member of the Emory Libraries DEI Professional Development Subcommittee. She holds an MLA and an MLIS from the University of Alabama.
Maureen McGavin is a writer and editor for the Emory Libraries communications team. She brings her experience in journalism and marketing to tell the stories of the Libraries' value to students, faculty, staff, and the community. She writes articles and press releases, manages the main library's social media channels, and coordinates marketing plans for events. Prior to her work in marketing, she was the assistant editor for the city magazine in Columbus, Ohio, and a reporter for a group of newspapers there.
