ACGE, a non-profit research consortium, working with the U.S. Army to upgrade the learning resources at Fort Huachuca, AZ, seeks a skilled and knowledgeable professional for a one year contract as an Archivist working in the Training Support Division at the Fort.

The Division ensures the preservation, documentation, and presentation of U.S. history and the history of Ft. Huachuca through the operations of the Main Post Museum and its Annex. The Archivist will be responsible for reviewing and sorting an extensive collection of archival materials related to military intelligence, including documents, photographs, and maps, and will develop a process for organizing, accessioning, presenting, and preserving collection materials. The archivist will work day-to-day with Army staff in meeting the research and archival needs of the Division.

Most of the documents stored in vaults–some dating back to just after the Civil War– have never been formally examined or evaluated.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the ACGE project manager, the successful candidate will:

    • Conduct an initial survey and basic inventorying of all archival materials.
    • Create a formal archival process for evaluation and organizing of holdings, including relationship to Museum mission/goals, Southwest history, and other relevant criteria and industry standards.
    • Ensure that archival materials are widely accessible by creating finding aids, inventories, and metadata.
    • Evaluate and develop storage requirements for current/new archival materials.
    • Collaborates with Army staff in ongoing assessment and workflow of the archival process: collections, assessment, evaluation, accessioning, accessibility, and preservation.
