The Latin American and Caribbean Cultural Heritage Section (LACCHA) is seeking presentation proposals on "Collecting the Now" for the annual section meeting in July.
This past year has been unprecedented in many ways: the pandemic, protests against police violence, elections, and increased racial tensions, to name only a few things. Communities across the nation have grappled with these issues, and archivists have risen to collect and record how communities have responded. We want to know about local engagement with the communities in your area, whether those communities are academic, religious, or larger communities in your city or town. Presentations should focus on projects designed to focus on collecting local community records and responses to current issues that may be affecting the community, from Covid-19 to racism and political tension, or any other issues significantly impacting Latinx and Caribbean communities across the country and the world.
Presentations will be between ten and fifteen minutes, and will be presented at the annual section meeting on July 28th. Please send proposals by June 1st; selected proposals will be notified by June 8th. Questions can be directed to Camila Zorrilla Tessler (camila.tessler@yale.edu) or Christina Bleyer (christina.bleyer@trincoll.edu).
