    Dear colleagues,

I'm pleased to announce the availability of the Summer('s End) 2019 issue of Descriptive Notes, the newsletter of the SAA Description Section.  You can access it directly here, or through the Section's microsite.

This issue features writing on accessible, anti-racist, and community-centered description, drawing from projects around the country.  Courtney Dean reviews efforts at UCLA Library Special Collections to align description for Japanese American collections with the preferred terminology advocated for by the Japanese American community.  At the Robert W. Woodruff Library GLAM Center, Gayle Schechter describes efforts to make digital images more accessible to a wider range of users, including those who use assistive technologies.  Faith Charlton discusses the work of Archivists for Black Lives in Philadelphia (A4BLiP) in creating anti-racist description resources.  You will also find updates from the Social Networks and Archival Context (SNAC) Team and the Governor's House Library Access to Historical Records project, and Section announcements.  Finally, we are also excited to share the newsletter's new look.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this issue.  Happy reading!

    Best,

    Lori Dedeyan
