The Society of Mississippi Archivists is excited to announce its upcoming Virtual Table Talk, "Podcasting and Archival Outreach: A How-to From SAA-UA's Student Chapter," a talk given by Laura Daly, Aria Skyler, & Curtis Forte.
More about this talk:
The enthusiasm for archival outreach at the University of Alabama is embodied in Archives and Communities, a podcast produced by the SAA-UA student chapter designed to highlight community archiving initiatives and the people behind them. After one year and (soon to be) 5 episodes, the podcast has provided a valuable service to students and archivists alike through networking, developing skills, professional promotion, and publicity. Although interest in archival careers is steadily growing, it can be challenging for students to find opportunities to apply their research in a project format. One key to success has been creating standardized procedures to research, schedule, and conduct interviews, as well as the quality control guidelines which are utilized in postproduction. Currently, the SAA-UA chapter is transitioning to new leadership and the theme of the podcast will be determined by the new chapter. With sustainable procedures in place, the podcast will continue to serve as a vehicle for the archival interests of future chapters and support the growth and development of students preparing to enter the archival profession.
