    Wisconsin Historical Society is searching for an Electronic Records and Digital Preservation Archivist.  This position is in the Library, Archives, and Museum Collections Division of the Wisconsin Historical Society located close to the state capitol and University of Wisconsin Madison. The Wisconsin Historical Society holds one of the premier research collections on North American history in the United States, with library holdings of 3.9 million items and archives of 110,000 cubic feet. The Division is a depository for both federal and state government publications and is the home of the State Archives.

    The Electronic Records and Digital Preservation Archivist has responsibility to collect, preserve, and make accessible digital records in a manner that ensures continued access to Wisconsin's heritage. Duties include leading efforts to preserve, describe, and provide access to digital public records and manuscript collection materials; developing processes for the preservation of digital materials acquired in a variety of formats; developing and documenting procedures for the acquisition of digital content; and the migration of digital content over time for preservation and access.  The incumbent supports the work of the section by guiding efforts to acquire, preserve, and make accessible electronic records from Wisconsin state and local governments and by providing direct assistance to state agency personnel in the area of managing electronic records and electronic access systems. This work is accomplished in cooperation with Wisconsin Historical Society IT staff, staff at the Department of Administration, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Information Technology. The work of this position involves frequent contacts with outside agencies, institutions, and individuals.
