Are you passionate about preserving and providing access to state governmental records and history? Would you be interested in applying to future archivist job openings at the California State Archives? Applications are now being accepted for the State of California's Archivist I open examination!

Created by California's first law, the California State Archives has collected, preserved, and provided access to the State's permanent governmental records and other materials since 1850. The State Archives' collections include more than 300 million documents and appeal to a wide variety of researchers whose interests range from legislative intent and public policy to genealogy and railroad history in California.

To be able to apply for an Archivist I position at the California State Archives, applicants must first take and pass the Archivist I examination. Successful exam candidates are determined eligible and placed on an employment list divided into ranks by score. Candidates in the top three ranks are then eligible for appointment and can apply for job openings in the Archivist I classification.

It is anticipated that exam interviews will be held in September 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exam will be held via either videoconference, teleconference, or in person with appropriate social distancing.

The final filing date for exam applications is August 21, 2020. For more information, please view the exam bulletin on the California Secretary of State's website HERE.
