K-12 is increasingly becoming an important component of Special Collections work, allowing us to expand to new audiences and broaden our impact on new communities. This webinar will focus on collaborative partnerships with funders--individuals, organizations, and foundations--whose financial support have resulted in new projects which would not otherwise be possible. The topics include the following projects:

NHPRC awarded a Literacy and Engagement with Historical Records grant to University of South Carolina Libraries' Digital Collections and the State Department of Education's Social Studies Associates to set up teacher workshops to create Document Based Questions (DBQs) using digital collections. Ms. Boyd will share her experiences promoting to K12 and the successes and failures of the project.

The Kingswood School at the Children's Home in Winston-Salem is a public alternative school serving students in grades K - 12. In 2019, Wake Forest Special Collections partnered with them to provide programming funded by donor support for outreach. Ms. May will share her experiences and ongoing planning for this continued partnership.

Florida State University Libraries Special Collections & Archives, in collaboration with donor and faculty member, Dr. Davis Houck, established a partnership with West Tallahatchie High School in Webb, MS. Curriculum content is being developed based on the Emmett Till Archives and with funding from the Emmett Till Lecture and Archives Endowment. Ms. McCormick will discuss the development of this project, current work, and how it will serve as a model for additional K-12 outreach.
