Email scam using a member's name and SAA as a part of scam

    Hello all.

An email message is going out, probably around to others, allegedly from a member of the society leadership and mention SAA. Mine came directly to my address, not a list, so the perpetrator, human or software, probably got access to someone's email, or something they copied off the site (or a site mentioning all this stuff). It is quite common for folks to assume that the senders' accounts, not their own, have been hacked, but the info could come from anywhere or anyone.

The message I received asked me to get $500 worth of Amazon gift cards, scrape the backs to reveal the numbers and send photos of those numbers of back. While normally folks would find this senseless, scams work on emotion not intellectual awareness, so if a person receiving this is in a hurry, feels it is urgent, is in the middle of planning stuff and under the gun, they might do it without thinking. If you have done this, contact Amazon and FBI cybercrime line. https://www.ic3.gov/

The FBI probably can't help you get things back, but every bit of data they get goes towards helping them advance investigations or investigation priority. Amazon might help, uncertain.

And just in case they snagged the message details from something you sent, or your email contact data, or compromised your account. Change your password. Even if you haven't received a message. Most scam programs will not send too many messages that will identify the compromised account, so don't assume.
