Dear colleagues,
As you may know, the Society of American Archivists runs a Mentoring Program for its members. Information about the program can be found here:
http://www2.archivists.org/membership/mentoring
SAA's Mentoring Program is designed to bring together members with shared interest in different aspects of the archival profession. The goal is to cultivate career development and communication between members with areas of expertise and members who want to build their knowledge within those areas.
Think you don't have any expertise to share? Some of our colleagues waiting for mentors are just getting started in the profession and are looking for advice on schools, classes, career trajectory, resume development and interviewing skills.
We welcome mentors with all types of experience, and I'll note that we currently have prospective proteges seeking mentors with the following:
- Experience with large-scale digitization projects
- Experience with funding and building new archival spaces.
- Experience with analytics and assessment in an archival context
- Experience with corporate or digital archives, particularly in the Chicago and DFW, Texas geographical areas
- Experience with professional travel, particularly in the Los Angeles area
- Experience with outreach, community involvement, and advocacy, particularly in the Albany, NY area
- Experience working in the state or national parks, with music collections, and/or with collections centering women and issues pertaining to gender identity
If you feel you have something to offer our newest colleagues, please consider signing up to be a mentor. You can submit an application to the program here:
http://www2.archivists.org/membership/mentoring/application (click on "Apply to be a mentor")
Please, do not reply to this message. Replying to the listserv will not get you put on the list of mentors or proteges. Hit forward instead and send the email to me personally (alison.clemens@gmail.com) if you wish to discuss the program or sign up.
For those of you who have been mentors or proteges, thank you for participating in the program!
Thank you for your consideration,
Alison
