    The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor/Catalog Librarian, in the University Libraries to begin in the spring of 2021.

     

    The catalog librarian is a faculty position that requires knowledge of current and emerging best practices in the cataloging of monographic and serial materials.

     

    Under the supervision of the Head of Technical Services, the incumbent catalogs monographic and serial materials in multiple formats, supervises cataloging paraprofessionals, manages projects in cataloging and collection management and creates and/or maintains documentation.  Research and service activities in keeping with a tenure-track faculty position in an academic environment are expected. 

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent advanced degree and experience.
    • Knowledge of current and emerging national cataloging practices and standards.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Indicators of abilities to engage in scholarly research.

     

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Three years of experience working in cataloging, preferably in the academic environment.
    • Experience with the Ex Libris Alma library services platform.
    • Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to manage staff.

     

    Salary and Rank

    Salary range is $45,000 to $50,000 and commensurate with the candidate's education and experience.
