New Online Exhibition at University of Delaware
In celebration of 100 years since the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Votes for Delaware Women: A Centennial Exhibition examines the state's part in the long struggle to secure voting rights for all women. Through letters, banners, petitions, buttons, and postcards, the exhibition weaves together the many strands of Delaware's suffrage story and its connections to national and international events. Visitors will discover the pro- and anti-suffrage arguments of Delawareans and meet unsung activists, including African American suffragists in the state.
The exhibition-curated by Anne M. Boylan, professor emerita of history and women and gender studies at the University of Delaware-features materials from the UD Library, Museums and Press as well as other area institutions, highlighting the wealth of resources available for related research and discovery of Delaware's history.
The online exhibition provides remote access to materials for research, recreation and continued celebration. On the exhibition's resource page, visitors can further explore and interact with the materials through online puzzles, interactive map tours of historic suffrage-related sites, and information about additional commemorative exhibitions and programming.
The installation of the Votes for Delaware Women exhibition in the Special Collections Gallery in Morris Library has been extended through the fall semester. It will be accessible by appointment when UD's main campus reopens.
