    The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) seeks an enthusiastic individual for the position of Assistant Professor / Digital Initiatives Archivist.

    Reporting to the Director of Archives & Special Collections, the Digital Initiatives Archivist has primary responsibility for leading the development and activities of Archives & Special Collections' digital collections, including planning, administering platforms and tools, creating metadata, assessing the effectiveness of initiatives and services, and collaborating on related promotion and outreach initiatives. Supervises in-house and outsourced digitization. Leads digital initiatives for Archives & Special Collections by providing a full range of collection management, preservation, and sustainability services and best practices for unique analog and digital material. The Digital Initiatives Archivist serves as one of the library's leading resources on copyright, fair use, and open access issues. Contributes to and supports library services through the investigation, implementation, and enhancement of tools and services that assist with research, creativity, scholarship, and engagement. Additionally, the Digital Initiatives Archivist maintains team-based working relationships with colleagues in the department, library, and the university and fulfills requirements of faculty status in areas of contributions to librarianship, scholarly activities, and service. 

    Salary: $49,500 - $ 52,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    1. Digital Collections:
      • Manages and leads the implementation, management, and assessment of discovery and repository tools for digital collections.
      • Manages and leads digitization production and collaborates with colleagues to set and maintain priorities and workflows.
      • Collaborates with Metadata Coordinator on the development of metadata to support the discovery and management of digital content, such as digitized collections, born-digital archives, digital scholarship, and research data.
    • Collaborates with department and university colleagues on digital preservation.
      • Monitors developments in digital collections, digitization, digital preservation, access, and related initiatives and communicates their implications to library stakeholders.
    • Advises on local best practices and institutional policy issues raised by digital collections such as copyright policy, fair use, digital preservation, and related matters.
      • Collaborates with library colleagues on managing research data including serving as a resource for students and faculty.
    1. Outreach Services:
      • Seek and maintain collaboration opportunities with other repositories and community partners.
      • Provides exceptional service in responding to research and reference inquiries as needed. Advises and trains community members on digitization and related metadata and preservation planning.
      • Conducts and contributes to departmental outreach when needed, such as presentations, exhibits, and publications.
      • Acts as liaison to university and community partners as well as vendors when appropriate.
    1. Supervision and Coordination:
      • Recruits, trains, and supervises student assistants.
      • Leads and directs work of other library personnel and student assistants when needed.
    1. Other Job Responsibilities:
      • Project planning and management. Evaluates feasibility of proposed projects and initiatives within the local environment; ensures that work plans with milestones and assessment plans are developed as part of any new initiatives.
    • Contributes to a continuous process of assessment by participating in the collection and analysis of relevant data.
    • Develops and maintains current knowledge of advances in archives, information technology's impact on libraries and archives, and other areas related to this position. Applies knowledge to continuously improving and advancing archives and project skills.
      • Participates in department and library planning.
      • Develops and documents processes and procedures; periodically reviews and revises processes and procedures as needed.
      • Accepts and implements other duties as assigned.
    1. Faculty Responsibilities:
      • Serves on library and/or university committees.
      • Participates in cross-departmental projects.
      • Participates in professional activities, professional development, and scholarly research and publication activities as outlined in the "Guidelines on Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure Recommendations for Faculty Members of the University Library".
