Dear colleagues,
SAA's Mentoring Subcommittee, which manages the Mentoring Program, is excited to share information with you about a new pilot Mentoring Cohort Program that we will be implementing in early summer. The program is intended to complement the traditional one-on-one model that SAA currently offers. The cohort model emphasizes that everyone has knowledge to share and the goal is to build a strong network of support for archivists at any stage in their careers.
For this initial pilot, the Subcommittee is seeking to create three cohorts that will support the following communities: Students and New Professionals, Accessibility & Disability, and BIPOC members of SAA. The SNAP cohort is currently at capacity but we are still recruiting mentee applications for the Accessibility & Disability and BIPOC cohorts. The application deadline for both cohorts has been extended to May 21st.
Cohorts will be active for 6 months (June - November 2021). The expected average time commitment for each cohort is to meet at least once per month for at least 1-2 hours. Each of the three cohorts will consist of two Mentors and four to six Mentees and will be supported by a liaison from the Mentoring Subcommittee.
As always, the traditional 1-to-1 mentoring program is always accepting applications, so please feel free to sign up for this program as well! https://www2.archivists.org/membership/mentoring
If you have any questions about this pilot program, contact the Mentoring Program Subcommittee at saamentoring@gmail.com.
Thank you for your consideration!
Sincerely,
SAA Mentoring Subcommittee
