Metadata Working Group of the Software Preservation Network Recruiting New Members

  • 1.  Metadata Working Group of the Software Preservation Network Recruiting New Members

    Posted Aug 30, 2019 09:56 AM

The Metadata Working Group of the Software Preservation Network (SPN) is looking for new members to join their team. This call is open to members and non-members of the Software Preservation Network. Interested individuals should complete the Nomination Form.

SPN was formed in 2016 during the Software Preservation Network Forum in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. SPN believes that  software should be curated and preserved because it is both: a dependency to access existing digital data and because it has intrinsic cultural value due to its mediating role in our lives. Software is critical information infrastructure. To learn more about the Software Preservation Network visit http://www.softwarepreservationnetwork.org/

The Metadata Standards and Policies working group is responsible for developing, promoting and advocating for common metadata frameworks and related metadata standards, vocabularies, and ontologies that support software preservation and access. This working group will collect and analyze existing metadata standards, develop approaches for establishing a common metadata framework, suggest crosswalking strategies, and promote community awareness of complementary standards. Currently, the working group is working on a Software Metadata Recommended Format guide for describing software.

    Process and timeline:

The Metadata Working Group meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 2pm ET/ 1pm CT/ 11am PT.  In addition to attending the monthly meeting, the expected time commitment for the Metadata Working group is flexible based on the activities of the group, but plan to devote at least an hour per week.

Interested individuals should complete the Nomination Form. The deadline to express interest  is Wednesday, Sept. 11, and you will hear back from the Metadata Working Group Coordinator by Sept. 23. You will attend your first working group meeting in October.
