    Description of Work
    Work will involve travel, as well as occasional nights and weekends, and Saturday work in the Search Room on a rotating basis. Duties may include but are not limited to:
    • Providing consultative services for state, local, and university officials and staff on questions and issues regarding records management, including those related to electronic records.
    • Working closely with state, local, and university officials to inventory, analyze, and document the administrative, legal, fiscal, and archival values of record series; appraise records to determine appropriate disposition; and provide state and local government offices advice on the long-term preservation of their archival records.
    • Working closely with division personnel on issues such as records management, electronic records preservation, digitization projects, and outreach.
    • Working collaboratively with division personnel to plan and implement projects by establishing the scope of the project, benchmarks, and timelines for completion.
    • Developing and delivering records management workshops for state and local government officials.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, as well as establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, government officials, and the public.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
    1. Demonstrated knowledge of archival and records management principles and metadata standards, including records appraisal and scheduling, and best practices in electronic records management.
    2. Demonstrated experience in archival appraisal, arrangement and description, and/or the use of retention and disposition schedules to manage records.
    3. Working knowledge of the organization of state and local government.
    4. Demonstrated experience in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating projects and overseeing projects over section lines, as well as establishing timeframes for completion.
    5. Demonstrated knowledge on how to provide reference services, including searching documents for administrative, legal, and evidential purposes.
    6. Demonstrated knowledge on how to develop and deliver training for varied audiences.
    7. Valid NC Driver's license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
    8. Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs. and can unpack, shelve, and shift large quantities of archival materials. May be required to stand for long periods of time.
    9. Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to chemicals, dust, and mold is possible.
    Management preference
    Preferred coursework in library and/or public history specializing in records management and/or archival studies.
     
    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Master's degree in history, public history, public administration or a related social science discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and one year progressive experience in archives and records work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    The recruitment range for the position is $42,780-$43,636.  The window for applications closes at 5pm ET on May 21st.
